KOKOMO — The Kokomo Police Department is asking for the local public’s assistance in locating missing 19 year old Karena McClerkin out of the Kokomo, Indiana area.
Karena was last seen on October 11, 2016.
Karena was 18 years old when she vanished on October 11, 2016. She was last seen walking in Kokomo, Indiana on South Washington Street, near West Foster Street and West Markland Avenue. Karena was reported missing on October 13, 2016, and although it has been over a year since anyone has seen her, her family is still searching for their loved one. According to Karena’s grandmother, Karena suffered from drug abuse, but considered seeking help from a Florida rehabilitation center right before she disappeared. Karena resided with her father, but after they relocated, she lived with her mother in Kokomo. This is where police believe she was picked up to visit friends on the last day she was ever seen. Over the past year, Karena’s family has been tortured with explicit and horrible rumors that were spread around about what really happened to Karena. Although Karena’s grandmother has come to the realization that her beloved granddaughter is likely deceased, this does not halt her family and friends’ mission to find her and bring her home. Numerous wooded and water based areas around Kokomo have been searched by loved ones and cadaver dogs, and missing persons flyers continue to be posted and seen to this day. Psychics have been included in attempts to solve this open and active case, and an online story was published by NBC’s Dateline in March of 2017. In July 2017, a body that fit Karena’s description was found in the Kankakee River in Illinois. It was later discovered to not be the body of Karena McClerkin. It is believed that Karena was wearing denim jeans with rips, a black, cropped top, and brown sandals when she was last seen. The Kokomo Police Department, as well as Karena’s grandmother, father, and loved ones are still actively searching for her. Her family has created the Bring Karena McClerkin Home Facebook page and typically use the hashtag, #BringKarenaHome, on social media to keep the awareness of her disappearance circulating.
